19-year-old Student Shot in South Carolina

Most of the time, the University dormitories are strict when it comes to the student’s safety and protection. There are some dormitories who implement curfew among its students to refrain them from going home late and disturbing others. Since a dormitory is located inside the University campus it is safe for the students to roam inside since security is always provided in school as most of the parents trust the safety of their children to the school.

A student was shot outside the University’s residence hall in the Coastal Carolina University. The student was a resident of Bennettsville and was living in the dormitory inside the campus. Anthony Darnell Lindell who was 19 was shot dead by an unidentified shooter who was on board a vehicle when the incident happened. The local police in South Carolina are still searching for the suspect.

A college in South Carolina was also closed early while the police was still searching for the shooter. The Coastal Carolina University still had classes amidst the incident but they have been providing students the availability of University counselors. The case of Mr.Lindell was still investigated and the school has tightened their security after the said incident.

The Coastal Carolina University has 9,000 students and the school officials would try their best to protect every student enrolled in the University. Gun violence in the U.S. has been a very hot issue and a lot of those family members who are concerned with their children’s lives often seek for certain law to be implemented in the use of guns in the United States.

$50 million worth of Diamonds stolen in Brussels Airport

An alarming incident occurred in the airport of Brussels. After the passengers were ready to board the plane that was scheduled to fly to Zurich a commotion took place even before the airplane took off. The short flight to Switzerland did not make it due to chaos that sparked panic among the passengers and the plane’s crew. The cargo of the airplane was loaded with diamonds and this was the reason that a number of 8 unidentified men who dressed like they were policemen stopped the plan and the accompanying vehicles rushed automatically to where the diamonds were placed.

The incident happened at around 8:00 in the evening. The pilot of the plane was at shocked after the said masked men hurriedly went into the cargo of the plane. There were no casualties and the masked men did not used gun. They have taken away the diamonds that amounted to $50 million. Investigations then took place right after the alarming incidents and authorities concluded that the said robbery was planned well by the gunmen.

Airport security was also tightened after the said incident. There were no reports on how the robbers knew that the diamonds was in the plane and was to be shipped to Zurich, Switzerland. A safety regulation was questioned after the said incident and the it was also not sure if only diamonds were taken because the cargo also had gold on it. The authorities have also labeled the scene professionally done. The robbers themselves knew a lot about the shipment and targeted the said airplane that would deliver the diamonds.

Pope Benedict Steps Down

The Pope is one of the religious icons that are known in the world. A lot of people, mostly Roman Catholics were known who their Pope was. From the death of Pope John Paul II and the announcemnt of the new Pope, the world was watching. It came to the news that Pope Benedict steps down and leaves his duties as Pope. The Pope’s announcement came as a surprise to a lot of concerned people, especially the catholics. There were varied comments from the people who saw a lot of updates on the announcement of the Pope. Others were saddened and some wish the Pope well.

There were statements that said the Pope made one of the bravest decisions to admit that he could no longer fulfill his duties and will not be able to continue his task due to his retirement as Pope. There were also versions of the news that detailed the reason why the Pope was leaving the office. One of which was directed to the Pope’s health condition.

After the annoucnement of Pope Benedict, many were already speculating on the possible Cardinals that will replace the Pope. News articles giving off some list of possible prospects to be elected as Pope and will succeed Pop Benedict. There were predictions that the new Pope will be a non-European Pope. The College of Cardinals is yet to convene about the matter and is open to the said possibility. Whatever the result is they are also positive that the Pope’s legacy will continue. The announcement from the Vatican is one of the shocking and stunning news.

8.0 Magnitude Earthquake in Solomon Islands

The shake was felt all over the Island and right after the 8.0 magnitude earthquake a wide tsunami alert was issued for the countries near the Pacific Ocean. Everyone were alerted especially in the near by Islands that there would be a big wave coming right after the tremendous shaking. Most of the affected residents were near the epicenter of the quake which was situated just close to an Island called Santa Cruz which can be seen in the Solomon. According to a figure released by the United States Geological Survey the earthquake took place at 1:12 GMT. It was also reported by the same agency that the quakes have been happening near the islands the past week. Strong aftershock then surfaced after the said 8.0 magnitude quake in the same area.

The earthquake was not that strong in the capital of Solomon Islands and the residents of the place did not felt the tremor. Much of the destruction only occurred in some small villages in Santa Cruz because it was reported to be the epicenter of the quake. Another agency, The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, who is responsible for issuing Tsunami alert levels, predicted that due to the strong magnitude of the quake there would be that big possibility that huge waves will destroy areas near the epicenter of the quake.

After the issued Tsunami warnings, the local residents in the island were vigilant and careful in monitoring the waves. Most of them stayed outside to see if there were any sign of the waves coming in. The alert level 1 warning also took effect for other neighboring countries like, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and other coast near the Pacific.
